Steps to Apply for Dual Enrollment at GHS

GHS Dual Enrollment Process

**RETURNING STUDENTS will meet with Mrs. Stover each semester to discuss your plans for the next semester.

1. Attend one of the monthly dual enrollment information sessions with your parent/guardian. Register here for a session.

General information about the dual enrollment program will be covered. This allows students and parents the opportunity to get an overview of the program. After attending an information session, students wishing to pursue dual enrollment may schedule an appointment with Mrs. Stover to continue the process.

2. Confirm your eligibility for the program (Age, HOPE GPA and SAT or ACT scores)

New dual enrollment funding regulations in effect from Summer 2020 forward (see top of page). Chattahoochee Technical College is no longer accepting 9th graders for dual enrollment courses.

Once you have confirmed you meet age, GPA, and test score requirements, take the following steps:

3. Create or update your GAfutures profile

Make sure you have an account on www.gafutures.org   If you don’t have an account, create one.

Make sure the email address in your profile is one you check regularly.  School email will not work as your school email will not accept external mail.  Make sure your first, middle, last name, DOB, and SSN are entered correctly.

4.  Submit the Student & Parent Participation Agreement (Dual Enrollment Contract)

New for the 2020-2021 school year, the student and parent participation agreement is completed online through your GAfutures account. This application allows GHS to approve your schedule and is completed once a year. If you are applying to multiple colleges for dual enrollment or haven’t yet decided on a college for dual enrollment, pick all that you are considering. A parent email must be provided for parents to complete their part of the agreement. Completion of this participation agreement allows Gilmer High School to complete your funding application so colleges can receive payment for your dual enrollment classes.
To complete this step, log into your GAfutures account, scroll down to Trending (will be on the right side), and select Dual Enrollment Application 2020-2021. Click Apply Now.

5. Submit your college application for admission through GAfutures

Log on to GAfutures.org.  Click on College Planning.  Click on College Applications.  In the Keyword search box type in the name of your college and click Go. Your college of choice will appear.  Click on Apply.  Complete all sections of the application.  When you select your application type, make sure you select Move On When Ready, Joint/ACCEL, or Dual Enrollment.  Once you complete the application, DO NOT enter debit or credit card information as the application fee is waived for dual enrollment students.

For students applying to Chattahoochee Tech, you will complete your dual enrollment application at www.chattahoocheetech.edu. Click on Enrollment Info. Click on Admissions for Dual Enrollment (H.S. Student). Be sure to select you are applying as a dual enrollment student when completing the application (Step 2). I can upload your completed Advisement Plan and qualifying test scores to Chattahoochee Tech (Steps 3 & 4).

6. Submit a transcript request through GAfutures

Complete this step immediately after you have submitted your application for admission.  Click on College Planning.  Click on High School Transcripts.  Select your college from the drop down box and complete the remainder of the form.  Click Send.  Counselors check GAfutures daily for transcript requests.  There is an estimated 72 hour turnaround for requests to be fulfilled. Do not request your transcript until you have submitted your college application for admission.

7. Submit official SAT or ACT scores

Scores must be requested directly from the testing agency.  For SAT scores, go to: http://www.collegeboard.org.  For ACT scores, go to:  http://www.actstudent.org

*You should take the SAT/ACT in plenty of time to meet application deadlines.  Test scores are available approximately three weeks after the test date.
If you are applying to Chattahoochee Tech and need to register to take the ACCUPLACER, you may do so after submitting your application.

8. Submit immunization forms to the college

Visit your family doctor or the Gilmer County Health Department and have them complete an immunization form for college.

9. Submit verification of lawful presence

A valid Georgia Driver’s or Learner’s license will satisfy this requirement.  When you take your immunization forms to the college, present your license for verification of lawful presence.  The college will photocopy your license and this step will be complete. If you are applying to UNG, I am able to submit the immunization form and verification of lawful presence for you. If applying to Chattahoochee Tech, you may upload verification of lawful presence from Chattahootchee Tech's dual enrollment page.
